MINDFULNESS HEALTH & WELLBEING COACHING

with Dan Thompson

Using the teachings of Mindfulness meditation to cultivate deep self-awareness & understanding for better health & wellbeing.

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness has its` roots in Buddhism and is one of the key aspects of traditional Buddhist teachings. It was introduced to the western world by the American professor of Medicine John Kabat-Zinn, who founded the `stress reduction clinic` in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Here John merged the Buddhist teachings with scientific knowledge to research, study and develop the practice of mindfulness to help medical patients cope with stress, pain and illness through `moment to moment awareness`.

At its` very core, mindfulness is really a way of becoming more aware. It is about developing and strengthening our awareness of ourselves & our awareness of our surroundings.

  • By developing self-awareness we gain an increased understanding of our thoughts, and how we interpret & process those thoughts (emotional intelligence), and how our thoughts can profoundly influence our feelings.

  • By developing our awareness of our surroundings, we are more capable of detecting & avoiding situations that bring about feelings of stress or anxiety, and this can help us make better decisions for our wellbeing.

Mindfulness is not a practice about becoming a `new you`, or becoming a `better you` in any way shape or form, and it is certainly not about transforming yourself into a different person...It is about self development through a process of increased awareness, with the aim of being able to cultivate some very accessible, powerful & practical ways which can help us in our everyday lives, moment to moment.

Why is Mindfulness Important?

Mindfulness is a practice which can have some powerful effects on how we respond to situations/events, how we process information and situations and how we cope emotionally with any challenges that come our way.

It is a practice that can be used in different ways, to help the practitioner feel better & more in control of their thoughts & feelings and achieve a greater sense of wellbeing.

This is significant because it gives us a new mindset tool that can help us gain access to

deep relaxation whenever we need or want.

Furthermore, through deeper connection between mind & body, Mindfulness can have far reaching effects that influence & positively change our `way of being` & enable us to regain control of our thoughts & emotions so that a person can feel more grounded and stable, have a healthier & calmer daily experience & become more resilient to experiences that may otherwise feel overwhelming or difficult.

What is the Process?

Under the guidance of Dan, The teachings of Mindfulness are learned through a combination of guided meditations, breathing techniques & self-reflective practices that provide the practitioner with some essential skills that build this awareness and teach the practitioner how to apply the teachings wherever & whenever they need.

This is done over a course of sessions that gradually build up a client`s knowledge & understanding.

This is achieved through one-to-one sessions, typically over a course of 4 or 8 sessions.

Typically, a free 1/2 hr assessment is booked & carried out online only (via zoom) to discuss the client`s health needs, goals & desires. This enables Dan to understand exactly what a client is looking to achieve (& provide the most valuable coaching experience) and is a great opportunity for a client to ask any questions they may have…

Following this initial assessment, a 1hr taster session can be booked to experience mindfulness before committing to any further sessions - this is also carried out online only (via zoom) - (the assessment & taster can be booked together to form a 1.5 hr total introductory experience, but may be booked for a separate time also).

If the client wishes to continue with further coaching, they may book further Mindfulness coaching sessions as;

Single, stand alone 1.5 hr sessions. Each session carried out in-person or online (via zoom) - Each session booked separately (good as stress reduction / relaxation session or for targeted coaching to a specific health need).

Or

A Place To Be You” 4 session program: comprising of 4 x 1.5 hr sessions. This Program can be carried out in-person or online (via zoom) - (A great way to develop a foundational Mindfulness practice).

Or

“Mindfulness For Wellness” 8 session program: comprising of 8 x 1.5 hr sessions. This Program can be carried out in-person or online (via zoom) - (recommended for establishing a strong Mindfulness practice & for achieving the greatest health benefit).
